Geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) is a specialized geosynthetic material designed for anti-seepage and waterproofing applications in artificial lakes, landfills, roof gardens of underground garages, ponds, oil depots, and chemical storage areas.
It consists of highly expansive sodium bentonite sandwiched between a layer of woven and non-woven geotextiles. Through a needle-punching process, the geotextiles are firmly bonded, creating a stable structure that locks the bentonite in place. When hydrated, the bentonite swells to form a uniform, high-density gel-like barrier, effectively preventing water leakage.
This self-sealing, flexible, and environmentally friendly material provides excellent hydraulic performance, even under high load or harsh conditions.
Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) is widely used in municipal solid waste landfills, water conservancy projects, environmental protection works, artificial lakes, and underground waterproofing and anti-seepage applications in building construction.
Compared to traditional waterproofing materials, GCL offers simpler and faster installation. It requires no heating or adhesives-only bentonite powder, nails, and washers for connection and fixation. Post-installation inspections are minimal, and in the event of any leakage, defects can be easily located and repaired.
GCL is recognized as one of the most time-efficient waterproofing materials during the construction phase, significantly reducing project timelines and labor costs.
